Trusting in Uncertainty

Foster Care Case Manager

"When I learned that they were being placed in a different home, I had to trust that God’s plans for them were greater than anything I could see."

I have worked in social work settings since 2018, but this is my first year working in foster care. When I stepped into this work, I quickly learned that every child leaves an imprint on your heart.

Recently, I met two young brothers whose time in our care was brief but left a lasting impact on me. Watching them leave was hard—there were so many things I couldn't seem to understand. When I learned that they were being placed in a different home, I had to trust that God’s plans for them were greater than anything I could see.

The oldest brother was only five years old. During our time together, I was able to share the gospel with him, sow seeds of faith, and share with him that he and his brother are deeply loved and that they are never alone because Jesus is always with them. Before he was placed in a new home, Gateway Woods gave him a Jesus plushie that sings songs and recites Bible verses. The excitement on his face when he opened it was unforgettable. My prayer is that in moments of uncertainty, he will press that button and be reminded of God’s faithfulness and be comforted.

During the placement process, the new family who had said yes to the boys fell through. God reminded me that I had been praying for His will in their lives. Soon after, we received news that the boys would be returning to a previous home with a family that the boys already knew and loved. The boys were so excited to go back once they realized where they were going, which made saying goodbye so much easier.

This job is filled with challenges and uncertainties, but it is also deeply fulfilling. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
