 On August 1st, Gateway Woods held its 50th annual benefit auction. The Gateway Woods Auction is one of the largest gatherings of members of the Apostolic Christian Church. The amount of love and support poured into this organization in one day alone is mind-boggling. It takes more than 400 volunteers to make the auction day run smoothly. Thousands of donated items, countless hours of preparation, and the dedication of volunteers come together to make the Gateway Woods' auction the most important fundraising event of the year. But what about the days, weeks, and months leading up to the auction? 

This summer was my fourth summer at Gateway Woods in some capacity. Whether I was serving as the Volunteer Coordinator, an Assistant, a Houseparent Intern, or simply a Volunteer, I have always enjoyed the opportunity to serve. During these experiences, I have formed many memories and friendships with other volunteers, interns, staff, and residents. Every summer, I remind myself that the goal is to prepare the campus for the annual benefit auction. Whether that involves mulching, hanging signs, landscaping, painting, cleaning, or spending time with residents and staff, each task plays a vital role in the mission of Gateway. While many people only experience the excitement of auction day, it is the behind-the-scenes work completed throughout the summer that makes the event possible. 

Auction day is one of my favorite days of the year. Not only do I have the opportunity to see many friends who travel hundreds of miles to support Gateway, but I also witness the love and generosity shown to the residents and the organization. It is inspiring to watch people come together with a shared purpose, knowing that every purchase, donation, and volunteer effort helps provide care and opportunities for those who call Gateway Woods home. Seeing months of preparation culminate in a single successful day makes all the hard work worthwhile. 

There is truly something special about the mission and community of Gateway Woods. Year after year, I am reminded that Gateway is much more than an organization—it is a family, brought together by the common desire to serve God and others. Gateway has continued to serve for 50 years thanks to generous donors, volunteers, staff, and, most importantly, God's strength and generosity. If you have never been involved with Gateway, I encourage you to consider volunteering, attending the annual benefit auction, or starting a career here. Gateway has had a lasting impact on my relationship with family, friends, and, most importantly, the Lord, and I am grateful for every opportunity to serve here, year after year.
