So Much More than Work

I interview a fair amount of the residents that come through Gateway Woods. One thing that I ask each one of them is what their first impressions were upon arrival. Almost without fail their responses is similar to Ford’s, “at first I thought everybody here didn’t care, and they just worked for the Government and wanted to collect their paychecks, just like some of the other places I’ve been. I’m learning that paychecks don’t compare to how much trouble they put up with from us at times!”

This is one of the awesome things about volunteering at Gateway Woods. Not only does your time help beautify our campus, prepare for the Auction and more, but it also shows something very unique to the residents. It is shocking for a resident to see someone willing to give of themselves for no personal benefit. That just doesn’t compute.

If you choose to volunteer at Gateway Woods, not only are you improving our campus, but also you are helping break through the walls of skeptical residents. Your presence alone carries with it a message that many of these children haven’t seen before, “it’s ok to do things that don’t benefit me.”

I have hardly begun to delve into all of the great reasons to volunteer at Gateway Woods: building relationships with close friends, meeting new people, honing new skills, helping others in need, and I could keep going!

Please prayerfully consider the impact you could make through volunteering at Gateway Woods. You really do make a difference.

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38
